Zebra Amai

This year’s Swarovski Crystal Society (SCS) collection takes inspiration from the unique flora and fauna of Africa – and in particular the zebra. We take a look at how the natural beauty of the African equine has been brought to life in crystal form.

 A zebra’s stripes are its key distinguishing element, with each animal bearing a unique pattern. However, the question of how the zebra got its stripes and what purpose they serve has long been debated.

Some believe that stripes allow zebras to keep cool under the hot African sun, while recent research suggests that the patterns function as an insect repellent, capable of deceiving flies that try to land on the zebra’s hide. 

Others claim that when in movement, black and white stripes can create a ""dazzling effect"" that confuses the zebra’s predators – many of which are color-blind. This can help to disguise the animal’s speed or direction of travel, and help it camouflage while in large groups. In fact, this phenomenon led to a group of zebras being referred to as a ""dazzle"" – making them the perfect creature to reimagine in Swarovski crystal. Just like the equines of the African savanna, this year’s SCS Annual Edition 2021 Zebra Amai truly dazzles.

富有創新精神的設計師 Heinz Tabertshofer 進行了一項挑戰，在Swarovski 水晶上演繹獨特的斑馬條紋。他將此大自然標誌性創作重新創作為Swarovski 水晶作品，其步驟如下：

步驟 1：研究與草圖 

Heinz 先研究該動物及其自然棲息地，接著前往參觀 Evelyn Haim-Swarovski 農場和居住其中的兩隻斑馬。這讓 Heinz 有機會在真實生活中近距離觀察此動物。最後，SCS Zebra Amai 的作品大多是根據一隻名為 Helmut 的當地斑馬所創作。 

步驟 2：粗略雕塑製模 

使用數位電腦製模功能，將草圖轉換成 3D 圖像。在此階段，可實驗不同的體態和表現方式，直到找出完美的姿勢。

步驟 3：設計模型   

最終設計確定後，設計師 Heinz Tabertshofer 和產品開發人員共同合作，琢磨水晶切割面角度，使其盡善盡美，確保成品能夠璀璨動人。Zebra Amai 包含了 457 個切割面，此時他們才對設計感到滿意，並用樹脂製作模型。 

步驟 4：手工打造原型樣品

在手工切割原型樣品且經過潤飾後，栩栩如生且光彩四射的 SCS Annual Edition 2021 Zebra Amai 終於成型。接著為 Zebra Amai 覆上 Silver Night 和 Golden Shine 特殊塗層，使條紋更明顯。

步驟 5：生產水晶組件

原型樣品完成後，便可開始進行生產。利用精準的工具，切割模型的各個組成元件。 

步驟 6：黏合和組裝

每個組件都採用人工一絲不苟地黏合在一起，接著經過最後潤飾，讓 Zebra Amai 活靈活現。 

步驟 7：品質控管 

每件Swarovski 水晶作品都會經過團隊專家的仔細檢查，確保所有顏色色澤和切割面完美無瑕，光彩四射。通過最後審查後，便可準備為世界帶來歡樂與耀眼光芒。
