Il maestoso Mississippi
Title:Vivere nelle immediate vicinanze del fiume
Subtitle:Il Mississippi è uno dei fiumi più grandi del mondo. Attraversa o confina con dieci stati degli USA ed ha svolto un ruolo importante nel tessuto culturale, economico e sociale del continente nordamericano fin dai primi insediamenti umani nel territorio. Oggi il fiume rimane la linfa vitale di molte comunità della regione in quanto sostiene l’agricoltura locale, fornisce una fonte di acqua potabile di qualità e funge da arteria pulsante per il trasporto e lo scambio commerciale.
Tutto ciò ne ha fatto il contesto perfetto per il lancio, nel 2016, del primo progetto Waterschool della Swarovski Foundation con sede negli Stati Uniti, creato in collaborazione con il partner ufficiale National Great River Research and Education Center (NGRREC).
Programma Waterschool USA
Title:Sorto nei pressi della confluenza dei fiumi Mississippi e Missouri, il programma Waterschool USA collabora con le comunità locali per ristabilire un legame più solido tra studenti ed insegnanti ed i corsi d’acqua del territorio in cui vivono. Il programma mira ad aumentare la consapevolezza e la comprensione di come le persone che vivono nei pressi del bacino del fiume Mississippi siano connesse e dipendano da un ecosistema fluviale sano e funzionante.
Promuovendo una più profonda comprensione e un apprezzamento dell’importanza ecologica del fiume mediante una varietà di attività coinvolgenti, il programma intende inoltre ispirare un cambiamento positivo ed incoraggiare un impegno responsabile della popolazione, non solo a beneficio delle comunità locali, ma del bacino idrico nel suo complesso.
Camp Waterschool
Title:Be a watershed ecologist
Subtitle:
Camp Waterschool offers students and their mentors the opportunity to spend a week immersed in the role of a watershed ecologist. During the camp, participants engage in a variety of science exploration and nature immersion activities such as water quality sampling, stream walks, storm drain stenciling, and river trips, as well as arts and crafts and outdoor adventures. These activities help foster critical thinking and a deeper commitment to conservation.
Educator Workshops
Title:Raise awareness of water and environment
Subtitle:
Each year, Waterschool USA organizes a series of educator workshops to equip teachers with the knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to integrate water-related topics into the curriculum. By building a bridge between classroom learning and community science initiatives, the workshops help spark student curiosity and raise awareness of water and environmental issues.
A Lasting Impact

600 students engaged in on-water canoe and paddleboard excursions on the Mississippi and Missouri rivers

80+ teachers provided with water education activity kits
56 schools provided with sanitation and hygiene supplies
It’s not just those on the ground who have made a big impact. In the summer of 2023, Swarovski VIP members had the opportunity to bid on an extraordinary Elephant Hekima sculpture. The winning bid prompted a $15,000 donation – with all proceeds going directly to the Swarovski Foundation Waterschool program in the Mississippi watershed.
