Gouldian Finches have long been prized for their showstopping cloak of rainbow feathers. While various color combinations exist in the wild, it’s their heads that truly set them apart. The majority of the birds have black heads, but keep your eyes peeled, as about one third are red-heads, with another tiny percentage in rare yellow or orange.

Es maravilloso observar los diamantes de Gould, y los estudios han demostrado que sus diferentes colores se deben a ventajas evolutivas, estrategias de supervivencia e, incluso, rasgos de la personalidad. Los machos con cabeza roja, por ejemplo, son los más competitivos y dominantes, mientras que las hembras pueden llegar a controlar el sexo de su descendencia, según el color de cabeza del macho que elijan.
