Title:towards a sustainable future

Since 2000, the Swarovski Waterschool has educated children and communities on sustainable water use, helping to safeguard the availability of clean water and support the health and wellbeing of people and the planet. In India, this program is especially crucial as the country is experiencing a water crisis due to changing weather patterns, repeated droughts, and an over-extraction of groundwater.
To help solve this water crisis and to reach out to more students, Swarovski Waterschool and its implementing partner WWF India have teamed up with Mission Paani, a nationwide initiative focused on protecting India’s water resources and changing attitudes and behaviors to improve the efficiency of water use. Swarovski Waterschool is providing its local Waterschool curriculum to Mission Paani to be shared in thousands of schools across India to educate children about their relationship with the environment, specifically water, and how human behaviors have both negative and positive impacts on the natural world. By encouraging students to understand the water-related problems facing environments like wetlands and rivers, and how this effects their communities, they can begin to adopt sustainable habits that could become the norm for future generations.

Waterschool
Title:Villages modèles

En Inde, Swarovski Waterschool a par ailleurs pour objectif de promouvoir des villages modèles. Déjà 10 villages modèles, où l'enseignement ne se limite pas aux étudiants mais s'adresse également aux agriculteurs de la région, participent au projet. Plus de 800 agriculteurs ont été formés aux techniques de préservation de l'eau, ainsi qu'à l'assainissement et aux pratiques agricoles durables, en vue de lutter contre le gaspillage de l'eau et l'utilisation de produits chimiques nocifs (tels que les pesticides et les engrais) sur les terrains cultivables. Cette formation a pour but de faire découvrir aux agriculteurs comment les pratiques durables, en plus d'être bénéfiques pour l'environnement, peuvent également conduire à des rendements agricoles plus élevés..
Swarovski Waterschool a également réaménagé le système d'approvisionnement en eau et d'assainissement de chaque village modèle en réparant les pompes manuelles installées par le gouvernement, sources essentielles d'eau douce dans les villages, et en aménageant des puits d'infiltration pour réduire le gaspillage des liquides et de l’eau. Ces efforts ont permis d'améliorer la qualité de l'eau potable de 1 500 ménages.
Swarovski Waterschool a bon espoir que son travail constant avec les étudiants et les agriculteurs en Inde permettra de remédier à la crise de l'eau dans le pays en instaurant un environnement plus sain et plus durable pour les générations à venir.
