Gouldian Finches have long been prized for their showstopping cloak of rainbow feathers. While various colour combinations exist in the wild, it’s their heads that truly set them apart. The majority of the birds have black heads, but keep your eyes peeled, as about one third are red-heads, with another tiny percentage in rare yellow or orange.

To emulate that same richness, our crystal experts have employed their own special techniques. Les Diamants de Gould sont certes magnifiques, mais ce que révèle leur plumage va bien au-delà du simple aspect esthétique. Des études ont en effet démontré, que ce dernier offre de nombreux avantages, en termes d’adaptation et de stratégies de survie et cache même certains traits de caractère du volatile. Les mâles à tête rouge, par exemple, sont plus compétitifs et dominants, tandis que les femelles sont capables de déterminer le sexe de leurs petits en choisissant leur mâle en fonction de la couleur de leur tête.
