제브라 Amai

올해 스와로브스키 크리스털 소사이어티(SCS) 컬렉션은 아프리카의 독특한 동식물, 특히 얼룩말에서 영감을 얻었습니다. 자연의 아름다움이 가득한 아프리카 말의 생명력을 어떻게 크리스털 형태로 담아냈는지 살펴봅니다.

 얼룩말의 줄무늬는 가장 눈에 띄는 특징으로, 각각 고유한 무늬를 갖고 있습니다. 그러나 얼룩말의 줄무늬가 어떻게 생겼는지, 왜 있는지는 오랫동안 논의되어 왔습니다.

일부 사람들은 얼룩말의 줄무늬가 아프리카의 뜨거운 햇볕 아래에서 시원하게 유지해준다고 생각하며, 최근 연구에 따르면 얼룩말의 가죽 위에 앉으려는 파리를 속이기 위한 방충제 역할을 한다고도 합니다. 

어떤 사람들은 얼룩말이 움직일 때 검은색과 흰색 줄무늬가 ‘반짝이는 효과’를 만들어내어, 대부분 색맹인 얼룩말의 포식자들을 혼동시킨다고 주장합니다. 이를 통해 얼룩말은 속도나 이동 방향을 드러내지 않고 큰 무리 속에 숨을 수 있습니다. 실제로 이 현상으로 인해 얼룩말 무리를 ‘대즐(dazzle, 빛나는)’이라고 부르며, 스와로브스키 크리스털로 표현하기 완벽한 생명체입니다. 아프리카 사바나의 말처럼, 올해 SCS 애뉴얼 에디션 2021 제브라 Amai는 진정으로 빛납니다.

Innovative designer Heinz Tabertshofer took on the challenge of translating the zebra’s unique striped coat into Swarovski crystal. This is the process he undertook to recreate one of Mother Nature’s iconic creations for Swarovski:

Step 1: Research and sketches

Heinz began by researching the animal and its natural habitat before visiting the Evelyn Haim-Swarovski equine farm – and its two zebra residents. This gave Heinz the opportunity to study the animals a little closer and in real life. In the end, the SCS Zebra Amai is largely based on one of the local zebras called Helmut. 

Step 2: Rough sculptural modeling

Using digital computer modeling, the sketches were converted into a three-dimensional representation. At this stage, different stances and expressions could be experimented with until the perfect pose was found.

Step 3: Design model

Once a final design was settled on, designer Heinz Tabertshofer and the product developer worked together to optimize the angles of the facets, to ensure the masterpiece would sparkle at its best. When they were satisfied, the Zebra Amai boasted 457 facets and a resin replica could be produced. 

Step 4: Handmade prototype

The SCS Annual Edition 2021 Zebra Amai finally sparkled into life as a hand-cut and polished prototype. A special coating was used to help define her stripes, giving Zebra Amai a unique Silver Night and Golden Shine coat.

6단계: 접착 및 조립

각 구성품은 수작업으로 정교하게 접착되며, 마지막 광택 처리를 통해 제브라 Amai에게 생명력을 부여했습니다. 

7단계: 품질 관리

각각의 크리스털 작품은 전문가로 구성된 팀에서 모든 컬러가 의도한 대로 보이는지, 모든 파셋이 완벽하게 빛나는지 철저하게 검사했습니다. 최종 검사를 통과하면 행복과 빛으로 세상을 가득 채울 준비가 됩니다!
