Taking the Limelight

Celebrating the New York City Ballet Fashion Gala’s 10th Anniversary, the company’s dancers lit up the stage in costumes adorned with more than 900,000 Swarovski crystals. Designed by emerging talent and frequent Swarovski collaborator, Palomo Spain, each monochrome ensemble features stones in a kaleidoscope of colors, championing individuality and highlighting the beauty of movement.

Behind the Scenes

Created by a highly talented team of 16 craftspeople, the Gala featured ten bespoke costumes, representing 1,500 hours of work. Using an innovative new technique, the artisans enhanced each garment with crystallized transfers in vivid shades, incorporating intricate detailing to ensure maximum stage impact. Each pirouette, leap, and turn radiated joyful extravagance.

An Exceptional Display

Starring in the world premiere of Gianna Reisen’s ballet ‘Play Time’, with music composed by Solange Knowles, the dancers honored our mastery of light, savoir-faire, and enduring support of the arts with a spectacular and dynamic performance.

Individual Brilliance

Each costume features vivid tonal shades, ranging from royal purple and mustard yellow to black and white. These eye-catching new designs were joined on stage by crystallized pieces from the archive – a wondrous link between past and present.

From Head to Pointed Toe

Arranged in vertical lines, the crystallized transfers draw the eye to each dancer’s exquisite lines as they dance across the floor. Catching the light with every movement, the stones add a dazzling dimension to the company’s performance.

Swarovski has enjoyed a long history of collaboration with the worlds of dance and theater. Working with passionate creatives to bring their vision to life through crystals. Since 2012, our team has crafted more than 40 costumes for the New York City Ballet alone.
