Good hygiene and sanitation have always been emphasized by the Swarovski Waterschool – an educational project, first established in 2000. But in 2020 the importance of handwashing took on even more significance as we all played our part to tackle Covid-19.
The current pandemic has brought with it many challenges, which have had major consequences for many of the Waterschool projects. Restrictions on gatherings have limited the reach of some of the Waterschool programs, while school closures meant activities in all seven countries had to cease.
But despite these issues, Swarovski Waterschool partners managed to find many new and innovative ways to continue spreading its message on the urgency and importance of preserving the world’s water resource.
We take a look at some of the admirable adaptability demonstrated by Swarovski Waterschool partners and find out how they’ve managed to keep educating children about the world’s most precious resource, during the pandemic.

En India, uno de los países más afectados por la COVID-19, los expertos formadores de la Waterschool utilizaron WhatsApp para ofrecer formación sobre el coronavirus y la huella hídrica. El cierre de escuelas también brindó la oportunidad de continuar con el esfuerzo por mejorar las instalaciones de agua y el saneamiento de las mismas aprovechando la ausencia de los niños.
En Austria, el tiempo se utilizó para conceptualizar nuevas ideas para los libros de texto de la Waterschool y actualizarlos. Además, durante el otoño se llevaron a cabo talleres para formadores que se concentraron en la higiene, la huella hídrica y los microplásticos. Los talleres demostraron ser increíblemente populares y las plazas se agotaron en un par de días, un nuevo récord que refleja la importancia del mensaje de la Waterschool.
En Tailandia, también se han impartido talleres que abarcaron temas como la higiene, el saneamiento y cómo fabricar tu propio jabón.
Por último, en Brasil, donde el impacto de la COVID-19 ha sido particularmente grave, se ha ofrecido apoyo a las familias que viven en aldeas remotas. Se proporcionaron paquetes de alimentos a estas comunidades, evitando así que corrieran el riesgo de contagiarse al tener que viajar regularmente a la ciudad más cercana en busca de suministros.
