Title:towards a sustainable future

Since 2000, the Swarovski Waterschool has educated children and communities on sustainable water use, helping to safeguard the availability of clean water and support the health and wellbeing of people and the planet. In India, this program is especially crucial as the country is experiencing a water crisis due to changing weather patterns, repeated droughts, and an over-extraction of groundwater.
To help solve this water crisis and to reach out to more students, Swarovski Waterschool and its implementing partner WWF India have teamed up with Mission Paani, a nationwide initiative focused on protecting India’s water resources and changing attitudes and behaviors to improve the efficiency of water use. Swarovski Waterschool is providing its local Waterschool curriculum to Mission Paani to be shared in thousands of schools across India to educate children about their relationship with the environment, specifically water, and how human behaviors have both negative and positive impacts on the natural world. By encouraging students to understand the water-related problems facing environments like wetlands and rivers, and how this effects their communities, they can begin to adopt sustainable habits that could become the norm for future generations.

Waterschool
Title:Aldeas modelo

Otro de los aspectos en los que Swarovski Waterschool se centra en la India es la defensa de las aldeas modelo. 10 aldeas modelo ya participan en el proyecto, en el que la enseñanza no solo se centra en los estudiantes, sino que también se extiende a los granjeros locales. Más de 800 granjeros han recibido formación sobre prácticas de conservación del agua, de saneamiento y de agricultura sostenible con el fin de reducir las aguas residuales y el uso de productos químicos perjudiciales (como los pesticidas y los fertilizantes) en las granjas. El objetivo de esta formación ha sido mostrar a los granjeros que las prácticas sostenibles no solo benefician al entorno, sino que también sirven para conseguir cosechas más prósperas.
Swarovski Waterschool también ha modificado las instalaciones de agua y saneamiento de cada aldea modelo: se han reparado las bombas manuales con titularidad gubernamental (una fuente clave de agua fresca en las aldeas) y se han construido pozos ciegos para reducir las aguas y los líquidos residuales. Con estas iniciativas se mejoró el agua potable de 1500 hogares.
Swarovski Waterschool espera que su trabajo continuo con estudiantes y granjeros en la India revertirá la crisis del agua en el país y creará un entorno más saludable y sostenible para las generaciones futuras.
