Subtitle:Rzeka Missisipi jest jedną z najdłuższych rzek świata. Stanowi ona granicę lub przepływa przez terytorium dziesięciu stanów USA, będąc istotnym elementem życia kulturalnego, gospodarczego i społecznego na kontynencie północnoamerykańskim już od chwili pojawienia się tam pierwszych ludzi. Obecnie rzeka pozostaje siłą napędową wielu społeczności zamieszkujących te tereny, wspierając miejscowe rolnictwo, będąc źródłem bezpiecznej wody pitnej, a także służąc jako główna arteria transportu towarowego i handlu.
Wszystko to sprawiło, że to właśnie nad rzeką Missisipi Fundacja Swarovski zainaugurowała w 2016 roku pierwszy projekt Waterschool na terenie USA, współpracując z oficjalnym partnerem przedsięwzięcia — centrum badawczo-edukacyjnym National Great River Research and Education Center (NGRREC).
The Waterschool USA Program
Title:Located near the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, the Waterschool USA program works with local communities to reconnect students and teachers to their local waterways. The program seeks to raise awareness and understanding of how people living along and within the Mississippi River watershed are connected to and reliant on a healthy, functioning river ecosystem.
By fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the river’s ecological significance through a range of immersive activities, the program also aims to inspire positive change and encourage responsible community engagement – not only for the benefit of local communities, but for the watershed as a whole.
Camp Waterschool
Title:Be a watershed ecologist
Subtitle:
Camp Waterschool offers students and their mentors the opportunity to spend a week immersed in the role of a watershed ecologist. During the camp, participants engage in a variety of science exploration and nature immersion activities such as water quality sampling, stream walks, storm drain stenciling, and river trips, as well as arts and crafts and outdoor adventures. These activities help foster critical thinking and a deeper commitment to conservation.
Educator Workshops
Title:Raise awareness of water and environment
Subtitle:
Each year, Waterschool USA organizes a series of educator workshops to equip teachers with the knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to integrate water-related topics into the curriculum. By building a bridge between classroom learning and community science initiatives, the workshops help spark student curiosity and raise awareness of water and environmental issues.
Un impact durable
Title:Le programme Waterschool États-Unis joue un rôle important depuis sa création.
Subtitle:Plus de 700 heures de formation professionnelle dédiées à 123 enseignants des états de l’Illinois et du Missouri (États-Unis)
Plus de 6000 heures d’ateliers pratiques autour des sciences de l’eau, avec des élèves âgés de 5 à 25 ans
Près de 600 élèves ont participé à des excursions en canoës ou en paddle sur les fleuves Mississippi et Missouri
Plus de 200 participants au Camp Waterschool
Plus de 80 enseignants équipés de kits pédagogiques sur le thème de l’eau
56 écoles munies d’installations d’assainissement et d’hygiène
Mais l’action de Swarovski ne se limite pas seulement au terrain. Au cours de l'été 2023, les membres VIP de Swarovski ont été invités à la vente aux enchères de l’extraordinaire sculpture Eléphant Hekima. Cette vente a permis de récolter la somme de 15 000 dollars, intégralement reversée au programme Waterschool en faveur du bassin-versant du Mississippi.
