A folyó az USA tíz államán keresztül vagy azok határán folyik, és fontos szerepet játszik az észak-amerikai kontinens kulturális, gazdasági és társadalmi életében, amióta emberek lakják a területet. A folyó továbbra is számos közösség éltető eleme a régióban, hozzájárul a helyi mezőgazdasághoz, biztonságos ivóvíz forrás és a kereskedelmi szállításban is elengedhetetlen szerepet játszik.
Így ez tökéletes helyszín a Swarovski Alapítvány első észak-amerikai Waterschool program elindítására hivatalos partnerünkkel, a National Great River Research and Education Centerrel (NGRREC, Országos Nagyfolyó Kutatási- és Oktatási központ) együttműködésben.
The Waterschool USA Program
Title:Located near the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, the Waterschool USA program works with local communities to reconnect students and teachers to their local waterways. The program seeks to raise awareness and understanding of how people living along and within the Mississippi River watershed are connected to and reliant on a healthy, functioning river ecosystem.
By fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the river’s ecological significance through a range of immersive activities, the program also aims to inspire positive change and encourage responsible community engagement – not only for the benefit of local communities, but for the watershed as a whole.
Camp Waterschool
Title:Ser um ecologista de bacias hidrográficas
Subtitle:
O Camp Waterschool oferece aos estudantes e aos seus mentores a oportunidade de passarem uma semana envolvidos no papel de um ecologista de bacias hidrográficas. Durante o acampamento, os participantes participam numa variedade de atividades de exploração científica e de imersão na natureza, como a recolha de amostras da qualidade da água, passeios em ribeiros, colocação de estênceis em coletores pluviais e viagens pelo rio, bem como atividades artísticas e de artesanato e aventuras ao ar livre. Estas atividades ajudam a promover o pensamento crítico e um compromisso mais profundo com a conservação.

Title:Sensibilização para a água e o ambiente
Subtitle:
Todos os anos, a Waterschool USA organiza uma série de workshops para profissionais da educação com o objetivo de dotar os professores com os conhecimentos, ferramentas e recursos necessários para integrar no currículo temas relacionados com a água. Ao estabelecer uma ponte entre a aprendizagem na sala de aula e as iniciativas científicas da comunidade, os workshops ajudam a despertar a curiosidade dos alunos e a sensibilizá-los para as questões da água e do ambiente.

56 schools provided with sanitation and hygiene supplies
It’s not just those on the ground who have made a big impact. In the summer of 2023, Swarovski VIP members had the opportunity to bid on an extraordinary Elephant Hekima sculpture. The winning bid prompted a $15,000 donation – with all proceeds going directly to the Swarovski Foundation Waterschool program in the Mississippi watershed.
