Title:towards a sustainable future

Since 2000, the Swarovski Waterschool has educated children and communities on sustainable water use, helping to safeguard the availability of clean water and support the health and wellbeing of people and the planet. In India, this program is especially crucial as the country is experiencing a water crisis due to changing weather patterns, repeated droughts, and an over-extraction of groundwater.
To help solve this water crisis and to reach out to more students, Swarovski Waterschool and its implementing partner WWF India have teamed up with Mission Paani, a nationwide initiative focused on protecting India’s water resources and changing attitudes and behaviors to improve the efficiency of water use. Swarovski Waterschool is providing its local Waterschool curriculum to Mission Paani to be shared in thousands of schools across India to educate children about their relationship with the environment, specifically water, and how human behaviors have both negative and positive impacts on the natural world. By encouraging students to understand the water-related problems facing environments like wetlands and rivers, and how this effects their communities, they can begin to adopt sustainable habits that could become the norm for future generations.

Waterschool
Title:Πρότυπα χωριά
Subtitle:
Ένα άλλο κεντρικό σημείο του Swarovski Waterschool στην Ινδία περιλαμβάνει την υποστήριξη πρότυπων χωριών. Υπάρχουν ήδη 10 πρότυπα χωριά που συμμετέχουν στο πρόγραμμα, όπου η εκπαίδευση δεν επικεντρώνονται μόνο στους μαθητές, αλλά επεκτείνονται και στους τοπικούς αγρότες. Περισσότεροι από 800 αγρότες εκπαιδεύτηκαν σε πρακτικές διατήρησης του νερού, καθώς και σε πρακτικές υγιεινής και βιώσιμης γεωργίας για τη μείωση της σπατάλης νερού και της χρήσης επιβλαβών χημικών ουσιών (όπως φυτοφάρμακα και λιπάσματα) στις γεωργικές εκτάσεις. Ο στόχος της εκπαίδευσης αυτής ήταν να δείξει στους αγρότες πώς οι βιώσιμες πρακτικές δεν ωφελούν μόνο το περιβάλλον αλλά μπορούν επίσης να οδηγήσουν σε πιο αποδοτικές σοδειές.
Στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος Swarovski Waterschool, τροποποιήθηκε επίσης η ύδρευση και η αποχέτευση κάθε πρότυπου χωριού με την επισκευή των κοινοτικών χειροκίνητων αντλιών, μιας βασικής πηγής γλυκού νερού στα χωριά, και την κατασκευή απορροφητικών βόθρων για τη μείωση των υγρών αποβλήτων και λυμάτων. Οι ενέργειες αυτές βελτίωσαν το πόσιμο νερό 1500 νοικοκυριών.
Στόχος του προγράμματος Swarovski Waterschool είναι ότι η συνέχιση της συνεργασίας με τους μαθητές και τους αγρότες στην Ινδία θα ανατρέψει την κρίση του νερού στη χώρα, δημιουργώντας ένα πιο υγιεινό και πιο βιώσιμο περιβάλλον για τις επόμενες γενιές.
