Title:towards a sustainable future

Since 2000, the Swarovski Waterschool has educated children and communities on sustainable water use, helping to safeguard the availability of clean water and support the health and wellbeing of people and the planet. In India, this program is especially crucial as the country is experiencing a water crisis due to changing weather patterns, repeated droughts, and an over-extraction of groundwater.
To help solve this water crisis and to reach out to more students, Swarovski Waterschool and its implementing partner WWF India have teamed up with Mission Paani, a nationwide initiative focused on protecting India’s water resources and changing attitudes and behaviors to improve the efficiency of water use. Swarovski Waterschool is providing its local Waterschool curriculum to Mission Paani to be shared in thousands of schools across India to educate children about their relationship with the environment, specifically water, and how human behaviors have both negative and positive impacts on the natural world. By encouraging students to understand the water-related problems facing environments like wetlands and rivers, and how this effects their communities, they can begin to adopt sustainable habits that could become the norm for future generations.

Waterschool

Un alt obiectiv al Swarovski Waterschool în India este promovarea satelor model. Există deja 10 sate model implicate în acest proiect, iar activitatea de predare se adresează atât elevilor, cât și fermierilor locali. Peste 800 de fermieri au beneficiat de pregătire în domeniul practicilor de conservare a apei, precum și în domeniul canalizării și al practicilor agricole sustenabile axate pe reducerea risipei de apă și pe utilizarea de substanțe chimice dăunătoare (cum ar fi pesticidele și îngrășămintele) pe terenurile agricole. Prin acest curs de pregătire, fermierii au învățat că practicile sustenabile sunt benefice pentru mediu, dar pot conduce și la obținerea unor recolte mai bogate.
De asemenea, Swarovski Waterschool a modificat sistemul de alimentare cu apă și de canalizare din fiecare sat-model, reparând pompele de mână puse la dispoziție de autorități, o sursă esențială de apă dulce pentru sate, și construind fose de drenaj pentru a reduce cantitatea de deșeuri lichide și de apă uzată. În urma acestor eforturi, 1500 de gospodării au beneficiat de apă potabilă de calitate mai bună.
Swarovski Waterschool speră că activitățile derulate în regim continuu cu elevii și fermierii din India vor contribui la o atenuare a crizei apei din această țară, contribuind la crearea unui mediu mai sănătos și mai sustenabil pentru generațiile viitoare.
