Sensibilizzare alla consapevolezza ambientale
Title:E se i bambini potessero imparare l'uno dall'altro l'importanza e il valore dell'acqua? Questo è il pensiero guida del più recente programma Swarovski, la Waterschool. Frutto della collaborazione di Earthwatch Australia e Kids Teaching Kids, un progetto pilota di nove mesi volge a incoraggiare i bambini dell'area metropolitana di Sydney ad avere un impatto effettivo e durevole.
Fin dalla sua fondazione nel 2000, Swarovski Waterschool ha fatto sua la missione di educare le giovani generazioni sull'importanza dell'acqua e dell'ambiente. E, cosa ancora più importante, di fornire loro le conoscenze e gli strumenti per fare la differenza. Quindi, quando si è presentata l’occasione di fare squadra con due organizzazioni che condividono gli stessi obiettivi – l’ONG australiana Earthwatch Australia e l'iniziativa formativa tra pari Kids Teaching Kids –, Swarovski Waterschool non ha saputo resistere.
Per quasi quarant'anni, Earthwatch Australia ha lavorato per affrontare il cambiamento globale attraverso l'impegno della comunità e la Citizen science, ricerca scientifica a cui partecipano anche i semplici cittadini. L’associazione ha aiutato a salvaguardare habitat essenziali, preservare la biodiversità e promuovere l'uso sostenibile delle risorse naturali. Anch’essa spinta dal desiderio di fare qualcosa per il cambiamento climatico, l'iniziativa Kids Teaching Kids è stata fondata partendo dalla convinzione che l'istruzione tra pari possa ispirare i giovani ad agire. Fin dalla sua fondazione nel 1999, l’iniziativa ha incoraggiato più di 152.000 studenti a guidare il cambiamento all'interno delle loro comunità.
Nel 2020, le due organizzazioni hanno unito le loro forze per offrire una formazione ambientale continua. Questo obiettivo era in linea con la missione e la visione della Swarovski Waterschool ed è stata quindi avviata una nuova fantastica collaborazione – nonché l'eccezionale progetto della Swarovski Waterschool in Australia.
Culture, Community and Connection
Title:How can a problem be addressed if it is not entirely understood? It can’t. Which is why the Swarovski Waterschool Australia pilot, which will engage 15 school communities and 150 students in the Western Sydney and outer Melbourne area, will empower students to ask the right questions and explore myriad solutions in the name of long-lasting, sustainable change.
Throughout the school year, program participants will work through four phases to become water conservation and environmental leaders. As a first step, they will conduct research and apply critical thinking to understand the issue in its full complexity – and grasp the behavioral change required to address it. They will then connect with traditional custodians of the land to explore the value of water through indigenous culture.
Indigital, Australia’s first Indigenous Edu-tech company, will also assist them in learning digital skills in cutting-edge technologies like augmented reality, animation, audio recording and coding. The students will then continue to broaden their understanding of water importance by speaking with local authorities, government representatives and environmental organizations.
Armed with knowledge, they will then develop workshops for other children to reflect on what they’ve learned and transform it into action. Finally, project participants will become leaders, encouraging peers to follow their example, while seeing to the completion of goals to create positive impact.
Swarovski will support the project along the way with events, talks, and virtual education to ensure younger generations learn that they have a voice and the power to stand up for their own, and our planet’s, future.
