Revolucionando la consciencia ambiental
Title:¿Y si los niños fueran capaces de enseñarse mutuamente sobre la importancia y el valor del agua? Esta es la idea que guía el último programa de la Swarovski Waterschool. Se trata de un proyecto piloto de nueve meses de duración, creado en colaboración con Earthwatch Australia y Kids Teaching Kids, cuyo objetivo es capacitar a los niños del área metropolitana de Sídney para que tengan repercusión y que sea duradero.
Desde su creación en el año 2000, la Swarovski Waterschool se ha propuesto educar a las generaciones más jóvenes sobre la importancia del agua y el medioambiente. Y, lo que es más importante, dotarles de los conocimientos y herramientas necesarias para lograr una diferencia. Así que, cuando surgió la oportunidad de asociarse con dos entidades con ideas afines: el departamento australiano de una ONG medioambiental mundial, Earthwatch Australia, y la iniciativa de una educación grupal, Kids Teaching Kids, ¿cómo iba a resistirse Swarovski Waterschool?
Durante casi cuatro décadas, Earthwatch Australia ha adoptado medidas para hacer frente al cambio climático a través de la ciencia ciudadana y la participación de la comunidad. Como resultado, ha ayudado a proteger hábitats críticos, preservar la biodiversidad y promover el uso sostenible de los recursos naturales. Del mismo modo, motivada por el deseo de lograr un cambio medioambiental, la iniciativa Kids Teaching Kids se fundó con la creencia de que la educación grupal puede inspirar a los jóvenes a actuar. Y, desde su creación en 1999, ha capacitado a más de 152 000 estudiantes para que cambien sus comunidades.
En 2020, las dos entidades unieron sus fuerzas para ofrecer una educación medioambiental permanente. Este objetivo se ajustaba tanto con la misión y la visión de Swarovski Waterschool, que dio lugar a una nueva y emocionante colaboración, y a un inspirador proyecto de Swarovski Waterschool en Australia.
Culture, Community and Connection
Title:How can a problem be addressed if it is not entirely understood? It can’t. Which is why the Swarovski Waterschool Australia pilot, which will engage 15 school communities and 150 students in the Western Sydney and outer Melbourne area, will empower students to ask the right questions and explore myriad solutions in the name of long-lasting, sustainable change.
Throughout the school year, program participants will work through four phases to become water conservation and environmental leaders. As a first step, they will conduct research and apply critical thinking to understand the issue in its full complexity – and grasp the behavioral change required to address it. They will then connect with traditional custodians of the land to explore the value of water through indigenous culture.
Indigital, Australia’s first Indigenous Edu-tech company, will also assist them in learning digital skills in cutting-edge technologies like augmented reality, animation, audio recording and coding. The students will then continue to broaden their understanding of water importance by speaking with local authorities, government representatives and environmental organizations.
Armed with knowledge, they will then develop workshops for other children to reflect on what they’ve learned and transform it into action. Finally, project participants will become leaders, encouraging peers to follow their example, while seeing to the completion of goals to create positive impact.
Swarovski will support the project along the way with events, talks, and virtual education to ensure younger generations learn that they have a voice and the power to stand up for their own, and our planet’s, future.
