SWAROVSKI WATERSCHOOL TURNS 20
It’s now two whole decades since the launch of the Swarovski Waterschool, the flagship community investment program. 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of this educational voyage for all. The program supports four of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals: quality education; gender equality, clean water and sanitation and partnerships for the goals.
FROM LOCAL BEGINNINGS TO GLOBAL SUCCESS
What began as a local Austrian project with partner National Park Hohe Tauern in year 2000 has since expanded its reach to seven countries: Austria, India, China, Uganda, Brazil, Thailand and the United States. What’s more, the program has taught over half a million kids at more than 2,400 schools with a 10,000-strong pool of specially trained teachers.
At the heart of this impressive expansion, however, still lies the project’s original goal, to teach children about the importance of sustainable use of water resources and provide reliable access to safe drinking water and sanitary facilities. Students engaging with the Swarovski Waterschool program develop a passion for the topics, including healthy habits like thorough handwashing. They in turn spread their knowledge and enthusiasm throughout entire families – creating a positive ripple effect to neighbors and extended families, so whole communities get to learn about these vital topics and take action accordingly.
Locally based Swarovski Waterschool partners are the key to this project’s success, making these positive changes possible at a regional level.
