It was love at first sight for me with the Peter bar at the Peninsula Hotel! Only in Tokyo could you find such a modern, urban, and ultra sophisticated place! Its inspiring environment is the perfect combination of poetic and contemporary style. You enter the bar from the hotel’s ground floor, via an elevator covered in an opulent black lacquer finish, the precursor to a really special experience. Twenty-four floors later, barely time to catch your breath (the elevator is completely silent), the metallic trees with delicate hologram-like leaves welcome you for a drink of sake at the bar or a taste of Kobe beef against the backdrop of a stunning sunset in the land of the rising sun. The entrance is an undulating corridor, a kinetic maze of shining steel tubes. A luxurious, sunshine-yellow vintage refrigerator straight out of the fifties sits enthroned in the middle of the lounge like a bright, eye-catching intruder, adding a perfect splash of color. Mineral-like and faceted decorations in 3D line the walls. Others are suspended in clusters of crystal, reflecting this bright, sparkling, and transporting place, not forgetting the plunging view over Tokyo and its Imperial Palace Gardens. A wonderful contrast that seems to fuse the interior decor and the night sky together into one glorious panorama.
