Cartier takes pride of place at the Grand Palais

27.12.2013 | Archives of the future

The Cartier exhibition at the Grand Palais is the Parisian event not to be missed this winter. Bringing together 1,500 pieces from the jewelry house, the exhibition plunges us into the history of Cartier, founded in Paris in 1845, which has been influenced by so many great themes (art nouveau, modern trends, exotic Indian influences in particular, tutti frutti, and animalier style), and illustrates the impressive evolution of trends in the jewelry world. The visitor, immersed in near darkness, is met with the exquisite sparkle of diamonds and precious stones. On the ceiling, colored, patterned projections mirror the jewels. This is “Cartieroscope,” a concept created by talented artists Antoine and Manuel.

Throughout the glass cases, the strength of the company’s signature style is evident, with its clean lines and assertive geometry. Cartier’s DNA is shown with conviction right from the first formative years of the brand’s existence. As a creative director, this was particularly interesting because it is such a fine art. The exhibition is an opportunity to discover exceptional gems and sets produced with the highest technical expertise. You are immersed into the story of the fascinating links that the company has maintained with exceptional women, icons of both past and present. From the start you are wowed by jewel-encrusted tiaras by the likes of Marie Antoinette. Further on you can marvel at the mythical jewels of Liz Taylor and Barbara Hutton, femmes fatales and diamond addicts, opulent creations produced for María Félix that are filled with her sense of style, and delicate pieces created for Daisy Fellowes, fashion icon and it-girl of the 1930s. Graced with an amazing sense of style, these women embodied the creations of Cartier, with these beautiful pieces designed exclusively for them. A jewelry odyssey not to be missed!
