Tokujin Yoshioka’s “Crystallize”—a must-visit!

I have had the chance to collaborate with Tokujin Yoshioka on architectural design projects on a number of occasions, such as for the new Crystal Forest concept for our Swarovski stores and our spectacular Baselworld stand. Tokujin and I also worked on the design of an amazing watch for one of our most recent collections. Named Lake of Shimmer, it captures the play of light reflecting on water, an image that has been a great source of inspiration to Tokujin. I am delighted that his talent of crafting light and designing artistic pieces with poetic minimalism will soon be shared with the general public during his upcoming solo exhibition, his most significant so far.

From October 3, 2013, to January 19, 2014, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo will play host to his large-scale installation and a number of new pieces, some of which will be on display in Japan for the first time, providing a fantastic insight into Tokujin’s creative world. The exhibition will be a vital opportunity to explore the relationship between nature and man, which he describes as “Born from nature,” and will share his vision of “Crystallize” (form into a shape, fructify). I was fortunate enough to get a glimpse of it when I visited his tranquil design studio in Tokyo and it is one of the most inspiring installation concepts I have ever seen. My congratulations to Tokujin!
