I decided to concentrate on jewelry designers and the accessory departments in the best department stores. Some downtown, some uptown – the selection reflects the neighborhoods!
My favorite stops:
ME&RO (241 Elizabeth Street): Very beautiful jewelry with a focus on organic motifs and patterns, sometimes with an ethnic look that is lighthearted and modern.
LAZARO SOHO (457 Broome Street): This is THE king of rock and roll jewelry. The Wall of Fame in the store shows that many a rock singer and rebellious star has worn jewelry from this designer. We fell in love with the rosary pendants and the chunky rings with natural stones.
ELI HALILI (250 Mott Street): A small store that is really worth a visit! Here you can find beautiful, stackable rings, mini pendants, and delicate necklaces, all crafted in an organic style, with a slightly “worn” look that adds sentiment to the designs.
HENRI BENDEL (712 Fifth Avenue): A mecca for shopaholics. You just want to buy one of everything: the customizable leather bracelets, the layered pendants, the sparkling bangles, the stacking rings… On the second floor, all the fashionista’s favorite designers are featured: Joomi Lim, Anton Heunis,
BARNEYS (660 Madison Avenue): The ground floor jewelry department has, as always, the best of the best jewelry pieces on the market, from sentimental charms by photographer couple Inez & Vinoodh or Pamela Love, to vintage Yves Saint Laurent and contemporary Lanvin, as well as spectacular diamond necklaces and colorful, cascading pendants and rings from Sharon Khazzam.
