In May I was lucky enough to have an express tour around Asia through Japan, China, and South Korea. It was a hectic ten days experiencing these rich cultures with which I have always felt an affinity. Over this special Asian-inspired week, you will be able to take a look at the highlights of my trip.
Seoul was a truly enchanting get-away. South Korea is a country that I have visited many times, the first being in 1990. And with this new trip came new encounters. I got the chance to meet Hyo-Jae, a truly inspiring and generous woman, who is a master seamstress of Hanbok, the traditional Korean dress. With bright colors, clean lines, and incredible weightlessness, it is a tradition passed down from her mother, which she continues with great skill. She introduced me to the technique of bojagi, where strips of colored fabric are transformed by interweaving them one over the other, which she decorated with our jewels as a final touch.
I was really moved by the way she welcomed me. A spread of both delicious and beautiful food prepared that morning, followed by a relaxing break in her garden for the traditional tea ceremony. A haven in the midst of a buzzing city, an unforgettable moment frozen in time.
